Bhutan Introduces New SDF Incentives to Encourage Longer Stays
The government of Bhutan has announced exciting new travel incentives to boost tourism by making longer stays more attractive. Effective from June 1, 2023, these incentives apply to guests paying the Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) in US Dollars and are valid for stays in Bhutan until December 31, 2024.
What is the Sustainable Development Fee (SDF)?
The SDF is a daily fee that tourists are required to pay to visit Bhutan. The fee supports various sustainable development and conservation projects within the country, contributing to the preservation of Bhutan’s pristine environment and cultural heritage. Historically, the SDF has been a crucial element in maintaining Bhutan's unique tourism model, which emphasizes low-impact, high-value tourism.
